Timber Protection
The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. In other words, the term wood science can also be known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. The comparison made against other products will include the features of the material against those of wood, the value and the ease it can be worked on. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. The wide range of products where wood can be used is just one of the many advantages that give wood an upper hand over other products. It is also based on renewable resources. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.
The good appearance of your timber made structure cannot be guaranteed if protection of the timber is not done. This protection is from moisture and insects which are the biggest threat to wood. The water particles in the timber increase the rotting and the insects bore through the wood. There are many ways timber is treated among them being the ACQ in other words alkaline copper Quaternary. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It is a highly corrosive chemical that affects most metals that are used together with the wooden products. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.
The use of copper metal is another method of wood treatment that is fast being accepted. This method, unlike the ACQ, is friendly to the metal fasteners and its gaining popularity very fast. Micronized copper wood preservative is the correct term to refer this type of preservation. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. The difference between this method and the other copper-based methods is that the copper is used as a metal rather than a dissolved material. When this process is used to treat timber the timber properties are increased highly. The time the wood products treated using this method last is longer other types of treatment.
Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
